YAMS is recruiting for a volunteer Finance Director

YAMS is a growing charity and as a result of this growth, and to replace an outgoing board role, we are looking for a new Finance Director to join the team.

Role Purpose:

To oversee the financial operations, ensuring financial sustainability, compliance, and effective financial planning to support the charity’s mission.


Key Responsibilities:


  1. Financial Strategy and Planning:

    • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the charity’s goals.

    • Prepare annual budgets and financial forecasts.

    • Provide financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets, and business drivers.

  2. Financial Management:

    • Oversee the management of the charity’s finances, including cash flow, investments, and asset management.

    • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to the board and stakeholders.

    • Manage the charity’s financial risk, including insurance and compliance with financial regulations.

  3. Leadership and Team Management:

    • Help develop the charity team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and understanding of basic financial matters

    • Provide training and support to staff on financial matters.

    • Collaborate with staff and board to ensure financial alignment with the charity’s objectives.

  4. Compliance and Governance:

    • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and charity laws.

    • Oversee the preparation and submission of statutory accounts and returns.

    • Liaise with external auditors and manage the audit process.

  5. Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Build and maintain relationships with donors, funders, and other stakeholders.

    • Provide financial reports and insights to the board of trustees.

    • Represent the charity in financial matters with external partners and agencies.


Qualifications and Experience:


  • Essential:

    • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA).

    • Proven experience in a senior financial role, preferably within the charity sector.

    • Strong knowledge of charity finance regulations and best practices.

    • Excellent leadership and team management skills.

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Desirable:

    • Experience in the mental health sector.

    • Knowledge of fundraising and grant management.

    • Familiarity with financial software and systems used in the charity sector.

YAMS board meetings are held every 6 weeks, in person, but remote access if required is available.
